Provides an historical overview of the evolution of models for the care of the intellectually disabled; from the institutions of the early 1800’s through to current the community living options. The strength of the institutions is acknowledged but the real restrictions on quality of life are highlighted. Examines issues surrounding people with an intellectual disability moving from institutions into the community, especially the nature and extent of support services. Accompanied by a 3p. Study Guide inside the cover.
