A plant must absorb essential nutrients from the soil and how a plant utilises essential nutrients and trace elements through the fixed, exchangeable and soluble nutrient pools is shown. The Nitrogen cycle is also explained. Roots absorb soil nutrients and depending on whether there is an excess or defecit of nitrogen, the soil is either acidic or alkaline. Soil texture is explained and the modern day use of hydroponics.
