Two separate episodes examine two of Austalia’s best-loved animals, the emu and the echidna. ‘Emu - curious companions’ follows the work of researcher Cate Coddington. Her study of one of Australia’s most recognisable birds involved following a group of emus through a cold Canberra winter. In the process she discovered startling information about their breeding habits and social systems. ‘Echidna - the survivor’, filmed on Kangaroo Island, South Australia, presents one of Australia’s least-known mammals, through the work of researchers Dr. Peggy Rismiller and Mike McKelvey.
