Highlights of the beatification ceremony conducted by Pope John Paul II in Sydney on 19 January 1995. Mary MacKillop could become Australia’s first Saint. Born in Melbourne in 1842 she pioneered a religious order for women and dedicated her life to the poor, particularly children. Most of her work was in Penola, South Australia where she opened a school for children.
