Examines some of the latest developments to help people survive in hostile environments. Discusses the manufacture of new fabrics which have been used to design a new generation of tents, clothing and sleeping bags for surviving high altitude conditions. Also looks at how the use of a global positioning system can be used to help the lives of people stranded at sea or on land.
