The life of cellist Jacqueline du Pre was tragically cut short when she died of multiple sclerosis, aged 28. This film contains footage of du Pre in her element, practicing amongst friends and performing to receptive and adoring audiences. The second half of the program features performances. Extracts include Brahms: Sonata No.2 in F, Op.99; Offenbach: Duos for two cellos; Beethoven: Sonata No.3 in A, Op.69; Schubert: Piano Quintet in A, D.667 “The Trout”; Beethoven: Piano Trio No.5 in D, Op.70 No.1 “The Ghost”; Elgar: and Cello Concerto in E minor, Op.85.
