1924 - Marseilles, France, and boxer Alan Leferve (Jean-Claude Van Damme) runs foul of a mobster after winning a fight he was supposed to lose, attempts to take the mobsters girlfriend away, and in the ensuing escape finds himself not only running from the mobster henchmen - but the law as well. His only hope is to join the French Foreign Legion, a place where you can forget your name, escape your past, abandon your love and try to survive in the Moroccan desert of North Africa. Now Alain DuChamp, Leferve befriends an Englishman with a military past, an Italian who joined for the money to marry his sweetheart, and an American negro looking for some respect as a man.
