Jim Graham, a young Briton living a comfortable life in Shanghai, is separated from his parents following the Japanese invasion of China at the start of World War II. The separation leads to Jim being caught in an internment camp where he has to fend for himself. Cast includes John Malkovich, Christian Bale, Miranda Richardson and Nigel Havers. Based on the autobiographical novel by J. G. Ballard.
