Events at Stratford-upon-Avon to commemorate the four hundredth birthday of William Shakespeare. Celebrations included the opening of the new Shakespeare Centre, and a procession of local dignitaries with representatives from 115 nations, to lay wreaths on the poet’s tomb at Holy Trinity Church. H.R.H the Duke of Edinburgh arrived to pay tribute, visiting Shakespeare Centre the cottage where the poet was born, and the Royal Shakespeare Memorial Theatre on the banks of the Avon.
