Shows stages of the building of the Spirit of Progress which was designed and built in the Railway Workshops in Newport, Victoria. The train was built for speed, comfort and safety, travelling up to 84 mph. Also shows the launch of her inaugural run to Geelong from Spencer Street Station (Melbourne) attended by the Ppremier of Victoria, Mr A.A. Dunstan, the Prime Minister of Australia, Robert Menzies and Chairman of the Victorian Railways Commissioners, Harold Clapp. Commentary by Terry Dear and photography by Roy Driver.
