A 9 part television serial about Australian author Alan Marshall, from his childhood and his diagnosis with Polio to his adulthood as he struggles to become a writer. Based on his three autobiographical novels “I can Jump Puddles”, ‘This is the Grass” and “How Beautiful are thy Feet”. Adapting quickly to life with crutches, Alan constantly tries to keep up with the other boys and do all the things that they do. His father’s friend Mr. Radcliff learns of Alan’s ambition to become a writer, he encourages Alan to start keeping a notebook, to note down good stories and yarns, and to constantly experience new things, as all these things will help him to become a great writer. When a family friend invites him to go camping, Alan takes along his notebook and goes along to experience ‘life’.
