Nigel Havers plays a Russian linguist employed by an English spy centre to intercept and interpret KGB phone conversations. His father, portrayed by Michael Caine, is a conservative businessman and former intelligence officer whose faith in England is shattered after he uncovers the intricate web of deceit and cover-up employed by his country’s secret services. Following leads left by his son, he sets out to investigate the tactics and activities of the intelligence networks and the identity of the people they protect. Also stars James Fox, Felicity Deans, Sir John Gielgud, Kenneth Colley, Gordon Jackson, David Langton and Barry Foster. Screenplay by Julian Bond, based on the novel by John Hale.
