Ernie Leonard, a Maori who had relinquished his traditions and heritage became chief of his tribe at the age of 55. He had been a television compere, later becoming a television producer and Ernie was able to show how he had learnt language and traditions and helped in fostering this knowledge in the young. He now produces a television program in Maori each week called ‘Koha’.
