Based on the popular novel for young adults by Frank Sacks, this drama centres on the adventures of Billy (Kevin Zegers), an 11-year-old boy whose life is shattered after his leg is permanently damaged, and his father is killed, in a car accident involving a drunk driver. Attempting to escape the bad memories of the accident, Billy and his mother Julie (Anne Archer) move to a new town, where, after visiting a rundown circus, they adopt a neglected pregnant pony that is being mistreated by its owner. But this is no ordinary pony. The foal she gives birth is a unicorn with magical powers who transforms Billy’s life. Yet as word spreads about this wonderous animal, Billy is forced muster all his courage to take the steps needed to save it from destruction.
