Rock ‘n’ roll and the 1950’s presents volumes 5 and 6 from their collection of rare and historical footage which captures the energy and values of the 1950’s that embodied the Rock & Roll culture. Featured is live performance clips along with movie trailers, advertisements and other footage that describe the mood of the day and it’s cultural values. Volume 5 along with musical performances features footage celebrating the sci-fi film genre and the TV serial. Volume 6 features footage of some of the bombshells that represented changing values on sexuality in the fifties. Included are televised performances of: Jane Mansfield, Lavern Baker, Chuck Berry, Frankie Lyman. Included in this double-feature is documentary “The Big beat legend: the evolution of rock on television”. This documentary looks at Alan Freed, the New York DJ who coined the phrase ‘rock n’ roll’ and played without prejudice the music of both black and white performers equally. Included are: the Exciters, Bill Haley, Fats Domino, The Platters, Frankie Lynman and the Teenagers, Bobby Darin, The Diamonds, Dion, Jerry Lee Lewis and Jackie Wilson.
