A courtroom drama starring Paul Newman as Frank Galvin, an alcoholic Boston lawyer struggling to make a living. Approached to represent a comatose young woman in a medical negligence case, he uses the opportunity to redeem himself and resurrect his career. Initially willing to accept a settlement that will alleviate his financial situation and avoid a confrontation with a large law firm, he decides to go to trial and fight for justice. James Mason plays an unscrupulous lawyer, prepared to use any tactic to defend the doctor at the centre of the malpractice claim. Also Stars Charlotte Rampling and Jack Warden. Screenplay by David Mamet, based on the novel by Barry Reed.
