A sensitive drama revolving around the relationship between a single father and his young son. Dustin Hoffman plays Ted Kramer, a career-driver husband and father who returns home from work one evening to be told by his wife (Meryl Streep) that she is leaving him and their six year old son. Initially overwhelmed by the responsibility of juggling a career and the care of his son, he gradually adapts to the role of single parent. When his wife returns after a period of soul searching, Ted challenges her right to custody. Based on the novel by Avery Corman. Also stars Justin Henry and Jane Alexander. Cinematography by Nestor Almendros. (Academy Awards: Best picture, Best actor, Best supporting actress, Best cinematography, Best direction, Best screenplay)
