This BBC documentary consists of eight episodes in the series, “The Planets” - Different worlds, Terra firma, Giants, Moon, Star, Atmosphere, Life and Destiny. Overall the series makes a detailed examination of the solar system using computer graphics, archival satellite footage and features interviews with various astronomers and scientific experts. Topics include revolutions and developments in philosophy and science through the ages as a reflection of our comprehension of the solar system. The series also covers developments in space travel and scientific discoveries that revolutionised approached to space, the results of which still reverberate today. Different worlds: Early attempts at space travel examined as well as the latest developments in space exploration. Terra firma: Geological information missions to neighbouring planets. Giants: Details the massive planets of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Moon: Explores theories regarding the moon’s domination of the earth’s tides. Also covers the years of the space race. Star: How the age of space exploration has garnered new scientific insights. Atmosphere: Describes the bizarre weather of other planets. Life: Poses the question, Are we alone? Destiny: Explains evolution over the next billion years. An intelligent and engaging documentary.
