Captain Queeg (Humphrey Bogart) takes over command of the run down, rusty minesweeper the “U.S.S. Told from the perspective of young and idealistic Graduate Ensign Willie Keith (Robert Francis), appointed ship’s Morale Officer by Queeg, but is one of two officers court martialled facing mutiny after they relieve Queeg of his duties when his steadfast adherence to rules imperils the lives of his crew in a typhoon.
