This made for television production of Giacomo Puccini’s “La Boheme” with libretto by Guiseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica after the novel by Henri Murger was performed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden on 16 February 1982. It features the Royal Opera Chorus (Chorus master John McCarthy) and The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House conducted by Lamberto Gardelli with music direction for The Royal Opera by Sir Colin Davis. “La Boheme” is essentially a tale of doomed love, set in the Bohemian quarters of 1830s Paris. The roles of the two lovers, Mimi and Rodolfo, are sung by Ileana Cotrubas and Neil Shicoff along with Marilyn Zschau as Musetta and Thomas Allen as Marcello. Supporting cast includes Gwynne Howell, John Rawnsley, Brian Donlan. Sung in Italian with no English subtitles. Includes a booklet guide.
