The Imperial Russian Ballet at the Maryinsky Theatre in St Petersburg first performed this beautiful classical ballet, choreographed by Marius Petipa to the wonderful score composed by Tchaikovsky, in 1890. In this 1983 television production, tradition is carried on by the world renowned Kirov Ballet at the Leningrad Theatre of Opera and Ballet with principal dancers Irina Kolpakova (Princess Aurora), Sergei Berezhnoi (Prince Desire), Lubov Kunakova (the Lilac Fairy) and Vladimir Lopukhov (Carabosse) presenting a truly glorious performance. Also features the magical music of the Orchestra of the Leningrad Theatre of Opera and Ballet conducted by Viktor Fedotov and choreography by Oleg Vinogradov.
