Camille Saint-Saens’ opera Samson et Dalila in three acts with libretto by Ferdinand Lemaire recorded live for television at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Based on Chapter 16 of the Book of Judges, this is the story of Samson (John Vickers), hero of the Israelites, and his betrayal by Dalila (Shirley Verrett). Features the Royal Opera Chorus and Orchestra of the Royal Opera House conducted by Sir Colin Davis, choreography by David Bintley and scenery and costume designed by Sidney Nolan. Cast also includes Jonathan Summers, Gwynne Howell, John Tomlinson, Maldwyn Davies, Matthew Best, John Dobson. Sung in French.
