Tells the story of 70 year-old Missouri farmer Gene Poirot and his successful struggle to restore the fertility of a wornout prairie farm. Describes the ecological farming techniques developed by Poirot in the course of fifty years of observation of a natural grasslands ecosystem, drawing on methods from traditional and modern sources.
