Recapitulates points made in the first four parts of the series to show how a community progresses from a state of subsistence to surplus: then, using animation and documentary footage, shows how the surplus produced by a worker is in effect swapped by him for all the other things he needs but does not produce himself. Narrated by Judy Cornwell, Desmond Carrington.
