Examines the plight of the urban poor in the USA, Thailand and Peru. Shows how in low income communities, opportunities for learning can be expected beyond school walls. Self-help community development projects, on-the-job training and professional guidance are organized to both increase literacy and to help people achieve a secure and rewarding life.
