Work experience

ACMI has a small number work experience placements for Year 10 students each year.

Applications for 2026 have now closed, good luck to those who applied!

This program allows successful applicants to gain experience working in the arts and culture industry.

As part of the program, students will spend a working week onsite at ACMI, engaging with various ACMI teams, members, and departments, whilst embarking on a filmmaking task.

It is a hands-on, production based program run by the ACMI Education team, and involves working with 1-2 other students - so be prepared to collaborate!

Frequently asked questions

Q: I applied for work experience, when will I found out if I have been successful or not?

Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 27 February. Unfortunately, due to a high volume of applicants, we will only be notifying successful applicatants, and sadly we cannot provide feedback on unsuccessful applications. Sorry!

Q: What does the application process look like?

It's an opportunity for you to tell us about yourself, and your passion for film, TV, videogames, digital art and culture, through your studies, interests, and projects. You can always go through the form and think about your responses offline before submitting the form.

Q: If I miss the application window, can I still apply?

We're sorry but we only consider applications submitted during the window we set. There are other museums, galleries, and moving-image related workplaces (such as production companies, animation studios) you might like to approach.

Q: Do you offer Structured Workplace Learning programs for VCE/VCAL/VCE Vocational Major students?

We do not currently offer a Structured Workplace Learning program.

Q: My school's work experience dates are different to what ACMI is offering, can I apply anyway?

Unfortunately, due to scheduling and staffing reasons we cannot offer different dates.

Q: Is it competitive?

It can be, but don't be deterred! We open up applications early in the year so we can let successful students know quickly, and give those that are unsuccessful plenty of time to explore other opportunities. If you're organised and get an application in, you will already be ahead of many others.

Q: Is ACMI a welcoming and accessible place to do work experience?

Absolutely! We welcome and encourage all Year 10 students to apply.

Q: I emailed ACMI a request to do work experience, do I need to complete an application form?

Yes. Completing the application form is the only way your application will be considered - please don't email (unless you have a question). You can always read through the form before you complete it.
