ACMI are offering virtual programs to support teachers

15 May 2020

ACMI is helping educators through this unprecedented time with virtual professional development, live videoconferences and recorded online talks — allowing teachers and students to delve deeper into texts and supporting them during remote learning and beyond.

two-part live video conference for VCE English teachers kicks off on Monday 18 May with the second instalment going live on Monday 25 May. Teachers will build confidence and expertise around interpreting, comparing and teaching The Queen and Ransom. Educators can secure their spots here

A range of pre-recorded talks are also available online for students to watch, including a session on Narrative and Ideology given by VCE Media teacher and examiner, Ashley Hall. Other talks explore popular VCE English text Rear Window, as well as book and film pairs I am Malala and Pride, and Tracks and Charlie's Country.

ACMI's expert Education team have put together a varied and expansive suite of online resources for not only teachers in primary, secondary and VCE but also kids and parents looking for ways to make screentime both educational and fun at home.

Highlighted activities for students:

Script to storyboard - Turn a short script into a storyboard, and learn about camera shots and angles, scriptwriting and visual storytelling along the way.

What makes a good game? - Break down the elements that make up a good videogame and produce an original game review.

Meet the makers - a series of video talks with experts from the screen industry.

ACMI Head of Education, Christine Evely“For decades VCE English teachers have relied on ACMI to help them build confidence and expertise around teaching film and moving image media. Teachers and students are relying on screen content and online learning now more than ever. So we're meeting teachers where they are -- delivering our professional learning and student programs in an online format that can be easily accessed anywhere. We're pleased to be collaborating with VATE (Victorian Association for the Teaching of English) to present the VCE English PD program.”
