Barbie: VCE Media film and talk

Barbie is a global phenomenon, not only in terms of its box office success but also through its capacity to generate discussion and debate.

The film screening is followed by a talk/lecture from expert Media teacher Victoria Giummarra who will explore Barbie's narrative construction, reception and various contexts in detail, breaking down the Key Knowledge terminology of Unit 3 - Outcome 1 and explaining how students can apply this when developing their own interpretations and responses.

While this session is designed for students, teachers and pre-service teachers looking for a sample approach of how to analyse and teach a film text for Unit 3 will also find it valuable.

Victoria Giummarra is a current VCE Media teacher, with over 20 years experience working in the classroom and beyond.
