Play School Talks

Discover how imagination, stories and play help young children explore life’s big ideas through this series of three panel talks.

Play is fundamental to how children learn, grow and make sense of the world. In an era where screens shape so much of childhood, these practical conversations explore powerful ways that play and playful storytelling can open the door to deeper thinking, curiosity and empathy in early childhood.

These panel talks explore how families and early childhood educators can use children’s media and emerging technologies to enrich play-based learning in the early years, in ways that genuinely connect with and support children as they navigate big questions with confidence, creativity and curiosity.

The Power or Play in Pop Culture

Featuring international children's media expert David Kleeman (US), play advocate Anthony Semann and early childhood researcher Prof Louise Paatsch along with ACMI’s Director of Curatorial, Programming and Education, Emily Sexton, this talk unpacks how popular culture influences playful learning, from building resilience and supporting social connection to nurturing imagination and curiosity.
