The Play It Again project aims to create a playable history of Australasian videogames for industry, community and research purposes, by building on existing research into the history of Beam Software and their games from the 1980s.

The multi-faceted project brings multidisciplinary expertise to bear on the areas of collections, preservation, accessibility, fan knowledge, and the telling of histories about Australia’s digital game history.

The project is undertaken by ACMI in partnership with Flinders University, University of Melbourne, The New Zealand Film Archive, Berlin Computerspiele Museum, and the Research Trust of Victoria University of Wellington.

The project is funded via the Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Projects scheme, which funds collaborative projects between University researchers and Partner Organisations.

The first phase of this project was completed in 2015.
