David Rosetzky: Gaps

Exhibition

This event has ended and tickets are no longer available.

When

5 Aug 2014 – 19 Feb 2015

David Rosetzky creates elegant videos which feature an eclectic array of performers in carefully art directed surrounds, but stirs the surface of this seductive world with an undertow of disquiet and disconnection.

Rosetzky’s collaborators on Gaps include choreographer and performer Stephanie Lake, who also choreographed How to Feel (2011); co-writer Anna Zagala; and performers, Jessie Oshodi, Lee Serle, Rani Pramesti and Dimitri Baveas.

Drawing from material Rosetzky gathered conducting interviews with his cast, this work was an oblique survey of the transition from rehearsal to performance, in both art and life. The artist workshopped the material with the performers, who came from acting and dance disciplines, over several days. Lake’s choreography, which integrated naturalistic and stylised movements, was also developed with input from the cast and Rosetzky during this rehearsal period. Long time collaborator David Franzke provided the music and sound design.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.

Commissions

Our commissions support the creation of new works by providing artists with the time and resources to nurture and develop ideas, to pursue cross-disciplinary collaborations and to work at a scale that would not otherwise be possible.
