Isabelle Huppert and Franz Ragowski star in Michael Haneke's privileged family drama.

Tragedy strikes for the privileged Laurent family, but they seem mostly unphased.

After Eve’s mother is rushed to hospital with her life hanging in the balance, she finds herself moving in with her father’s family in Calais. There, another life hangs in the balance after an accident at the family’s lucrative construction company leaves a worker in intensive care.

Curator's Note

Michael Haneke’s most recent film is a quiet indictment of a bourgeois family transforming tragedies into setbacks and taking each one in their nonchalant stride.

A stunning cast make up the Laurent family.  Jean-Louis Trintignant and Isabelle Huppert who had appeared in Haneke’s previous film Amour appear alongside Mathieu Kassovitz (Amelie) Toby Jones (Berberian Sound Studio) and Franz Ragowski (Bird) who at this stage in his career was still an emerging international talent.

Happy End premiered at the 70th Cannes Film Festival.
