The conclusion to Michael Haneke’s two-part television miniseries sees the post-war generation struggle to connect in a world they've inherited.
When her estranged father passes away, Sigrid returns to her family home in Wiener Neustadt, now empty and shuttered. Reuniting with her high school friends who she hasn't seen in twenty years, Sigrid hosts a small dinner, however tensions quickly escalate when repressed angst rises to the surface.
Curator’s Note
Considered by many to be a landmark of Michael Haneke's early career in television, Lemmings is a two-part miniseries reflecting on the unique experience of the director's own generation who came of age in post-WW2 Austria.
Picking up twenty years after Part One, each of the characters remains emotionally distant from their war-weary parents, and one another. Emotionally isolated and hungry for connection, they search for human connection in their marriages and outside to varying success.
– Reece Goodwin, Curator (Film & TV)
Lemmings will screen across two separate programs. Lemmings: Part 1 - Arcadia will screen on Wednesday 23 April at 9:15pm as part of the Melbourne Cinémathèque program.
