Just as we keep photo albums of important images from our lives, the moving image is a powerful way to record our memories
For the Memory Grid, ACMI collected over 100 hours of film that recorded the unique stories of everyday people and places.
Memory Grid gave independent filmmakers a rare opportunity to showcase their outstanding works to the public. Some selected films are personal and nostalgic, while others are powerfully political. As well as a wealth of imaginative animated short films, the Memory Grid also included a selection of rarely exhibited interactive works.
The Memory Grid also ran a project called MAP (Memory and Place) which sourced, produced and screened archival, community and artist-generated visual impressions of locations across Victoria as experienced by their inhabitants.
