The exhibition explores music’s influence on art, film and social movements, traversing hip hop and rap, house, techno, dancehall and Jamaican sound system culture.

Originally produced and staged at 180 Studios in London, the exhibition features audiovisual works by Stan Douglas, Jenn Nkiru, William Kentridge, Jeremy Deller, Kahlil Joseph, Gabriel Moses, Cecilia Bengolea and Julianknxx, alongside immersive installations by Virgil Abloh and Carsten Nicolai.

Spanning continents, eras and sound worlds, Reverb celebrates the power of music through large-scale moving image works and interactive installations. The exhibition moves between the joyous, meditative, pulsating and potent.

Experience a sculptural sound system. Play with endlessly remixable vinyl loops on Technics turntables. Dip into the hypnotic rhythms of a six-hour jam film set within a reconstruction of ‘The Church’, the legendary New York studio where Miles Davis, Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan recorded. Witness a fantasy rap battle racing along copper lines from Cairo to London.

Visit the Listening Room and choose from a curated collection of records for deep listening in an acoustically optimised space designed for pristine sound. After hours, the room hosts weekly sessions featuring local and international artists. Selected sessions are curated by Yasmine Sharaf, presenter of Triple R’s Cease + Desist, and Robin Fox, co-founder and artistic director of MESS.

A joyous, time-forgetting labyrinth of sound and vision.
