Ennio Styles: Stylin'

Take your lunch break on Thursdays this July and August with Triple R presenters spinning records from 1976 in celebration of 50 years on air.

Described as a ‘tastemaker’ by über-tastemaker Gilles Peterson, Ennio Styles combines an unquenchable thirst for new sounds with an archival knowledge of the history of soulful music. His show Stylin’ on Triple R is celebrating 25 years as the station celebrates 50.

Ennio Styles has DJed with the likes of Thundercat, Erykah Badu, Pharoah Sanders, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Mark Pritchard. As a remixer, he has worked for the same labels as Madlib, Moodymann, Dimitri from Paris, Carl Craig, Masters at Work and Dorian Concept.

Music from his record label Heard and Felt has been featured by Grand Theft Auto, Heartbreak High (Netflix) and Mango, and played by Nia Archives, Sampha, Honey Dijon, Jazzy Jeff, Myd and Roisin Murphy.

For his lunchtime in the Listening Room, Ennio Styles will lead an interactive session where the answers will be in his vinyl crate, stocked with some of his favourite 1976 jazz, funk, soul and Brazilian records, and others that are somehow related.

Guess the tunes, the musicians and producers behind them, their impact on wider popular culture, and covers and samples in later genres like hip hop, house and drum & bass.
