[Kirsty Sword Gusmao Film Collection: Reel 1]

This film shows a slice of life from a working dairy farm in central Gippsland, Victoria.

We see cows being milked, the milk cans being loaded onto trucks and in to the trays of utility cars. The milk is transported by road to the Maffra Co-operative Milk Products Company.

There are scenes of hay bales being driven around the paddocks in the back of a ute. The hay is divided in to sections and fed to the cattle. We see de-horned Jersey and Friesian cows and bulls eating the hay and children riding a WX 572 tractor.

There is footage of a newly born calf being licked clean by its mother and we see the calf’s first attempt to stand and take its first steps.

The film also shows a family visit to the Glenmaggie Dam Enlargement Project Observation Point.
