Paul, a childhood friend of Judge Elizabeth Massot is dreaming of transforming his country estate into a bird reserve. Unfortunately, his brother, who co-owns the property, has promised it to a land developper. During a bush fire, Paul’s property is devastated by the flames; the following day, the bulldozers arrive to start work on Paul’s land. Judge Massot who is in charge of establishing the criminal origin of the fires cannot fathom why Paul is refusing to file charges against the fire-bugs.
