Florence [Videogame Archive]

Film

Expertly blending the visual novel and gaming genres, Florence illustrates one year in the life of a young woman in Melbourne as she falls in love, breaks her daily routine and follows her creative passion.

Developed by Australian craft games studio Mountains, Florence uses innovative gameplay mechanics to represent social interactions. The emotions of the poignant narrative are rendered through tapping and swiping minigames, making them all the more touching.

The archive spans a variety of paraphernalia from Florence’s creation, including storyboards, early character designs, unused game concepts, musical samples and feedback from game testers. It provides invaluable insight on the game development process and the path Mountains took in making their award-winning game.
