Balls of Steel is a top-down pinball computer game that features five fully-animated pinball tables, each with its own theme, missions, and special bonuses. One of the tables is themed on Duke Nukem, a franchise that Balls of Steel’s publisher, Apogee Software, developed. This tie-in continues to Duke Nukem series itself, where the pinball game appears in several releases.

Balls of Steel plays on a top-down scrolling screen, with an animated dot matrix display at the bottom mimicking the displays of actual pinball tables. As with its real-life counterpart, it shows the player score and animated graphics. Each table can also be viewed in its entirety. High scores are awarded with a “powerball” bonus mode, and could be posted on the “WorldScores” website for a global ranking, although this feature has since been discontinued.
