Film On display

This video features in a responsive display in the museum that presents the moments, stories and memes capturing the zeitgeist by going viral on the internet.

At the end of Saltburn, Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) dances triumphantly through a mansion to Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s “Murder on the Dancefloor”. Emerald Fennell’s caustic comment on class is one of the most divisive films of 2023, but despite its mixed reception has inspired a popular TikTok trend, which sees the hit song remixed over footage of people dancing through mansions. This video is a typical example, with the user effectively assembling a snapshot of privilege via their smartphone and editing software. However, as the comments attest, the trend has come under fire for missing the supposedly satirical point of the film.
