How Jane Conquest Rang the Bell

Jane’s conquest was a melodramatic magic lantern show which was hugely popular and performed with reading of poem by Dr Croft who rewrote and adapted the poem by James Milne. It featured an early form of special effects, by use of a second magic lantern slide projected over the first with a biunial magic lantern. This is considered to be an early form of superimpostion, which became a common effect in photography and cinematography. It consisted of 17 slides to be used on a biunial magic lantern, the 17th slide being of an angel to be superimposed over slide 4 and 16 to suggest the presence of an angel.
