Biographical film about American singer actress Lillian Roth, her rise to fame in Hollywood and on Broadway and her eventual downhill path into self-destruction and alcoholism brought on by a series of ill-fated relationships and a domineering ambitious mother. Susan Hayward is superbe in her portrayal of Roth and equally Jo Van Fleet in the role of Roth’s mother. Cast also includes Richard Conte, Eddie Albert and Don Taylor. Based on the book of the same title by Lillian Roth, Mike Connolly and Gerold Frank. (Award: Oscar for Best Costume Design (Helen Rose))
