Introduction
As part of ACMI's community of watchers, players and makers we invite you to join us on our social media channels and other online spaces to share the love of the moving image. We welcome you to join the conversation and contribute your own stories and discoveries.
We expect everyone to cooperate with our Community Guidelines to ensure a safe, diverse, and welcoming online space for all community members.
Our Corporate Strategy 2020–2024 states our beliefs that:
- First Peoples culture is at the centre of Australian culture
- commitment to diversity and inclusivity is ongoing work and must be continuously championed
- our museum must strive to be accessible, reflective and welcoming of all our communities.

Like our museum, we are dedicated to ensuring a harassment-free online experience for everyone across our digital channels, regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, or religion (or lack thereof). Our online spaces are a place for everyone to feel safe. Sexist, racist, discriminatory or harassing language and imagery will not be tolerated across any ACMI online spaces. ACMI may take any action it deems appropriate to curb any inappropriate behaviour, which may include warning the offender, deleting comments and/or blocking users.
Guidelines
Do:
- Be nice – we all play a part in creating a safe and welcoming environment. Please treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required. We do not tolerate offensive or discriminatory behaviour.
- Stay on topic – we will gladly address any genuine concerns related to ACMI provided they meet our Online Community Guidelines.
- Be yourself – please post under your own name. Comments from anonymous, misleading or suspicious profile names may be deleted, regardless of topic.
- Protect your identity – do not reveal any personal or sensitive information about yourself or others. We may ask to take a conversation offline if it is of a sensitive nature.
- Observe the law – do not post anything which breaks the law or encourages others to engage in unlawful activity, such as breach of copyright, defamation or contempt of court.
- Stay safe – do not describe or encourage activities which could endanger the safety or well-being of others.
- Observe channel rules – in addition to our own requirements, be sure to observe the policies of the specific social media channels that you are using – including the rules of Facebook, Twitter, G+, Instagram, and Youtube.
Don’t:
- Don’t get personal – do not harass others or make personal attacks.
- Don’t be impolite – don’t use swear words or other language which is likely to offend
- Don’t discriminate – don’t spread views that are racist, sexist, homophobic, sexually explicit or otherwise objectionable.
- Don’t spam us – do not post or repost information or links to advertisements, requests or offers, or anything else that could be considered to have a commercial motivation.
- Don’t share spoilers!
If a participant fails to comply with these guidelines, ACMI may take any action it deems appropriate, which may include warning the offender, deleting comments and/or blocking users.
