Mat Watson

After hours, the room hosts one-off sessions, talks, and listening parties from RISING artists who you wouldn’t usually get to see up close. The lineup has been curated by Yasmine Sharaf host of Cease + Desist on Triple R and Robin Fox, co-founder and artistic director of MESS.

Mat Watson is a Naarm-based artist working across modular synthesis, drums and electronic composition. His solo projects explore the territory between Kosmische Musik traditions and experimental sound practice, spanning both recorded work and live performance.

For his Listening Room session, Watson will present his third studio album under his Other Places alias, Lost in the Sea of Paradise. The album documents a 20-year love affair with a single instrument, the Synthi AKS. Recorded between 2014 and 2016 and released on vinyl via It Records in 2017, the album showcases Watson’s nuanced approach to composition and electronic sound, informed by one of electronic music's most storied instruments.
