Entertaining children’s film combining the use of live action, animation and ballet to present adaptations of three Hans Christian Andersen fairytales - The Kitchen, The Little match girl and Little Ida - where nanimate kitchen objects come alive, vegetables stage a ballet and magic fills the air. Featuring members of the Royal Ballet, including Lesley Collier (Princess Ida), Graham Fletcher and Denise Nunn with choreography by Frederick Ashton, music by Rossini arranged by John Dalby and conducted by Philip Gammon. Cast also includes Murray Melvin, Ann Firbank, John Tordoff, John Dalby, Patricia Napier, Tasneem Maqsood (the match girl), Johanna Sonnex (Ida).
